It's my first mobile, and I see lots of things that I do not understand......GPRS, HCSDS, live, bluetooth, infrared, Java...
What are those, how will I use them, can I live without them.....Which one is more important....Is there anything else I should check about the phone before I buy it?

When choosing a mobile phone, it's best that you take a pen and a paper and put down all the options you would like to have on your mobile. For instance, I have recently bought myself Motorola L2 phone. What was important to me was:

1. Bluetooth 1.2 (I wanted to be able to sync it with my Mac via BT; it also comes with a bluetooth earphone)

2. Large Screen ( it has large and crisp screen)

3. Internet capabilities so I can checking on my emails ( it has GPRS class 10 support / WAP 2.0 / xHTML)

4. MP3 support ( I wanted MP3 support so I can converting songs from my CD's to the ringtones quickly and easily)

What I didn't need?

1. A built-in camera ( I didn't want this on my mobile, I already own digital camera that I am quiet happy with).

2. Voice Recording feature ( I did't want voice recording feature as I don't need it on my phone at all).

3. Built-in FM Radio tuner ( It's useless on your mobile IMHO and a huge battery hogger)

4. More storage space ( Some mobile phones come with a support for a memory cards that gives you more storage space on your phone. That is good if you already don't have an MP3 player so you'd like occasionally to listen to some of your mp3 songs. As I do have an iPod, I did not think that I need more then 10 MB of space on my phone - L2 comes with a 10MB of shared memory which is enough for a few java apps that i use on the regular basis.)

Based on the facts above of what I do and don't need on my mobile phone it was easy to choose which is best model for my needs.

3G is a standard of a video compression algorithm that is being used to compress video files so they can easily be transfered via mobile network (e.g as a part of MMS message).
