I'm English and would love to move to Spain hopefully in the next 10yrs. In the meantime, I intend to master the language, travel there often and visit different regions so I have an idea of where I'd like to stay etc etc. My questions are, how do I go about emigrating and compared to the UK - what is the tax system like, what is like for pensioners, i.e. are they given a tough time like the UK (I have less than 30yrs to go but it's always good to ask...), is unemployment high, is crime as bad as it is here in the UK? Finally, is there an online national newspaper for expats that someone can recommend?

There are so many Brits living in Spain it is amazing. I don't know much about the tax system but I know a couple of people who are moving there and they seem to be finding it easy. I don't know an online newspaper but for jobs I have seen a lot of expatriates.com and on craigslist.com.

You have to speak Spanish.
Tax system: you have to pay a tax for your monthly earnings, a tax for your properties and the VAT ( there are a lot more but these are the main ones ).
Pensioners: you got a pay from the Government. It usually is very low, so people got a private retirement plan. You have to work for the last 15 years before retirement. Retirement age is usually 65.
Unemployment is not high.
Crime is not very bad ( I think it has lower rates than in the UK)

guard a job earlier you get there! LOLOL! people who've lived there their finished LIVES won't have the capacity to get artwork!!! Getting residency relies upon on what u . s . a . you reside in now, and what your citizenship is. in the experience that your citizenship is British, you a minimum of do no longer could desire to worry approximately artwork visas...that are even harder to get than jobs. yet getting artwork beforehand? you should be waiting to come across artwork as a nanny (working without delay for a family, even much less paperwork) or coaching English, for which you may desire to be approved. different (unskilled) jobs are rather scarce. solid success with that. (initiate on the Spanish Embassy)
