I reject your premise. The UK under Tony Blair agrees on pretty much only one thing with Bush---their foreign policy concerning how to react since Sept 11. Blair disagrees with Bush about nearly everything else. Hardly a scenario one would refer to as dependent.

Like it or not, the UK has a unique relationship with the US. Most Uk famlies have a branch of their family in the US. There is a constant flow of relatives heading in both directions and whilst some families have lost touch with their relatives in the US, other's have maintained strong links.
This relationship has been reflected in all walks of like, business partnerships, technological exchange and a stubborn independant point of view.
American is basically a baby born from the UK. Like any child we have fights and sometimes the child does totally stupid things. Like all relationships you have to take the good with the bad.

There are certainly financial ties behind the scenes that allow the US to control the UK. Personally I think the UK should break away and ally itself with continental Europe where a more mature attitude toward world politics prevails.
