Systems analysis is the science of analysing large, complex systems. Systems design is the process of designing how computing might be used to improve or enhance in some way the operation of such systems. One fundamental difference therefore is that systems analysis requires no knowledge of computing techniques (unless the system being analysed is a computing system, of course), whereas systems design does.

Systems Analysis is asking these questions about a system, breaking it down into elemental units. Systems Design is designing new processes to acheive the sesired goals.

What - Identify processes
Why - Identify process outputs
When - Identify inter-relationship of processes. Sequences and triggers,
How - Describe what the process actually does.
Where - Physical location of process and actors
Who - People that begin, end and otherwise control a process.
