Income Tax is a fine levied on you for doing good at work. More you earn, more you pay, LOL. Seriously, the government has not money of its own. It collects the money from you in the form of Income Tax, sales tax, V.A.T etc. and the money is ideally tpo be ultimately used for our betterment like building roads, bridges, water tanks etc. So, it is very important to pay all the taxes you are asked to pay.

Remember that income tax is a progressive tax. A lower earner pays vastly less income tax than the high earner. This is more favorable to the lower and middle classes than alternative forms of tax.

We live in a society, and as part of that society, we are responsible for contributing to its operation and maintenance.

Income tax, property tax, excise tax, sales tax -- these are all ways the government takes our money, in order to function as a government. That money goes to pay for services and programs the government considers important: defense, education, social programs, etc.

The original Constitution didn't allow for an income tax, so the 16th Amendment was added in 1909 (ratified 1913) to allow this.
