I've begun buying products from companies that do not test on animals. However a lot of them are SO much more expensive than the products I was used to buying! I can't afford $12 shampoos, $5 tubes of toothpaste and $8 boxes of detergent! Why are products that do not test on animals so much more expensive than the rest? Does anyone have any good suggestions for good brands/companies that do not test on animals, but their products are reasonably priced? Thanks! :)

Because in most cases the company who makes these products uses items and chemicals they already know to be safe. Most of the time "All natural ingredients" and of course it is much more expensive to get these non mass produced ingredients. Thats the increase to you the consumer. So while yes you probably saved an animal from being tested on you pay for the extra cost to produce items from "natural" things. Rather then lots of chemicals. Also these companies are usually smaller, and have to do a lot more by themselves. (Advertise, and so forth.) Anyway i hope that helps.
