This really depends on the compression. Unless you have a very high compression ratio, 87 octane is generally fine. If you're burning gas that's too low in octane, you'll hear the tell-tale "pinging" when accelerating - this is preignition, and while it isn't catastrophic, it is something to address as it's bad for the engine. If you burn gas that's a higher octane than you need, though, you'll waste both money and gas.

The obvious answer is just to check your owner's manual. Many newer bikes, particularly crotch-rockets, will have a high compression ratio, but they'll tell you the minimum octane rating for the engine.

If it's a sportbike, whatever you can find over 90 Octane. Cruisers don't have as high of a compression ratio, so they can get away with 87 or above most of the time, but you should always put the high grade fuel into your bike to prevent premature detonation (read: tear your engine apart).

Besides, it's a motorcycle already! The difference in fuel cost PER TANK isn't going to be more than 50 cents!

save fuel by not twisting that throttle too quickly. Look ahead and anticipate traffic movements so you do not have to brake - braking costs fuel because you have to accelerate back up to speed afterwards. Keep tyres inflated to the correct pressure. Replace air filter when necessary.

Scooter has small wheels and is fairly only for short city journeys. each and each of the mechanical bits are hidden away in the back of panels. once you arrive at your vacation spot, you're dressed as a common individual. A scooter is a approach of shipping, no longer something more desirable. that is a kin equipment resembling a washer, tumble drier and so on. bike is more desirable of a "pastime" or "existence-style" aspect. It implies you've an "approach". each and each of the mechanical bits are on prepare and characteristic to be polished with boring regularity. once you arrive at your vacation spot, you're dressed as a BIKER. both machines are completely diverse and it isn't straightforward to guage them.
