No, our way of live is more influenced by the democatic institutions of the Athens.
Only the bravery of the Spartans is still used as an exemple for bravery. But it does not make much difference since every nation has his own heros to remember.

By the way : stoicisme was not explicit Spartan !

Without them our cars wouldn't have wheels. However, the Spartan males life was full of discipline and relied on very few luxuries. Can we say the same today about the males in our society? No!
Did you know that if a young female spartan did not have good strength, then she would have to die?
OMG!
I'd rather say that we have progressed immensely and it's all about the invention of that wheel.

an interesting question. stoic philosophy, something that forms an important part of the background of ideas, in the west, is based upon the spartans.

It would be great if our lives would be influenced more by the Spartans!
Their everyday life, philosophy, health, unity, love, social system, etc., would assist us to be happier, smarted an better people!

For those nation's who have a history of war, there is a certain stoic element that defines them. Us Maori, the Vikings, Japanese. It defines the warrior culture, a little extreme perhaps but something that made them who they are and why they were respected.
