I have an APHA stallion who is 1 1/2 yrs. old, and am curious as to what age breeders start standing their stallions at stud.

most breeders try to do most of their training when the stallion is 2, like breaking and manners, etc., so that he'll be easier to handle when they start breeding him at 3 or 4
don't start your horse too young or you'll never get anything else accomplished

Well I personally wouldn't breed with a stallion no mater what age I am!! :)

Seriously though, Mares are able to become mothers at three years of age.
