Yes Ephedra works. The reason that people were dying from it is from abuse. I know of weightlifters that were taking 10 pills at a time, when the packaging states only 2 with a max. of 8 per day. Weightlifters like to use the ephedra-caffeine-aspirin combo which gives them a big boost and helps their workout. If it's not abused, it's not bad for you unless you have a prediagnosed heart condition. It does cause your blood pressure to rise while on it so don't take it if you have high BP.
I lost 75 pounds taking Metabolife for 6 months, following the recommended dosages. After the weight was off, I took it once a day for maintenance. When it was banned, I gained 60 pounds back in two years.
The ban was lifted in April 2005, but my dietician recently told me that he heard that it was banned once again. He takes ephedra still, and he's a dietician, so he would know if it was really bad for you.
Ephedra can be purchased on the Internet. Some sites are not very reliable in that they take a really long time to ship. Ask around and people will tell you the sites that they use.
I use a different supplement now called phentermine. I have lost 22 pounds in 2 months. I got the jitters from it the first couple weeks but my body adjusted and I don't get those anymore. It is an appetite suppressant.

I took ephedra a couple years ago and It was not a good experience for me! If you are working out and want to lose weight try drinking water and taking something called ripped fuel! it does the same thing as ephedra without the side effect- ( ephedra made me very nerves and shakey , very bad mood swings and headakes!

They took most of it off the market for a reason. It's dangerous. It can mess with your heart. Plus, I used to work in a convenience store where we sold something called mini-thins that had Ephedra in it. There were people who came in and bought bottles every single day. The women who took it on a regular basis looked about 10-15 years older than they should have. It was very sad.

Ephedra is a nasty drug to use. It increases your heart rate and can increase your blood pressure. It messes with your metabolism and when you quit, not only do you go through a form of withdrawl, the body starts packing the weight back on. Not a good source to lose weight with.

People have died abusing this drug. That's why it was taken off the market before.

I guess you are referring to a buzz that you wish you could get from ephedra, because it is the main ingredient in the street drug called meth, speed, go,etc. First ephedra isn't meth, it only helps in the chemistry of making it.But it if were you would have to take about 25 or so pills(just guessing don't accept as fact!) to catch a buzz!

Stay away from Ephedra, it only works when you begin taking it and the effects wear off very quickly. Once off, people tend to gain their weight back and more.

Ephedra is now illegal in the US. The easiest way to get it is to buy sudafed cold pills. I think ma huang is the main ingredient, but it's concentrated so be careful taking it, because it has given heart attacks even to teenagers.

Ephedra is very dangerous. I would not recommend taking it. It causes all kinds of problems with your heart, especially if you take too much or take for a long period of time.
