Hi! i'm a piano teacher. I think there's no 'the most powerful music' gender. I play and teach classic, yet i play popular and jazz as well. Study classic first is good, because there are some basics you should know, and learn about these correctly from the start is the most important thing you should care about. Related to this issue is people who will teach you. Better they have proper knowledge and/or experience to teach and to handle some kind of problems that might arise. One last thing,is you. Even a genius can do nothing to makes you an expert if you don't take the advices from your tutor seriously.

While Jazz may be good upon occasion, I happen to believe that there is a certain power in classical music. Don't believe me? Try listening to a professional play chopin or rachmaninov. Listen to the feeling and emotion with which they play their piece, their changes in tempo, mood, style. Each preformance is truly an individual interpretation, a piece of art. I just do not feel the same way listening to Jazz, pop or any other type of modern "music" (I sometimes call it noise)

I understand why your piano teacher would tell you classical music is the best. After all, she/he does have a bias considering she teaches it for a living, and it's been around for so long. However, music is very subjective; it all depends on the person. That's why there are so many genres and so many different fans. I personally love rock because it evokes the most feelings out of me. Hell, I worship Trent Reznor, but if you're talking eye-candy, go for the jrockers! lol

Different types of music satisfy different moods of an individual. That is one of the wonderful things about it. Classic is considered the "high brow" of music, but the "best" is an individual preference.

it depends who you ask. i dont find pop to be that powerful because most pop artist don't play instruments and dont write their own songs. they just sing something they dont mean.
