The effectiveness of keeping a conspiracy intact is completely dependent on the number of people involved; the more people there are, the less likely the conspiracy will hold over time. There were literally tens of thousands of people involved in the Apollo program, and it has been over thirty years since the last lunar landing; faking the landings and keeping the people silent would have been more difficult than actually performing them.

On three of the Apollo missions, laser reflection dishes were set up which scientists use to this day to accurately calculate the distance between the Earth and the Moon. This equipment could only have been set up manually; no robotic missions could have performed these tasks.

The Clementine lunar satellite was able to take a picture of the Apollo 15 landing site, but the resolution was too low (100 meters) to be considered overwhelming evidence. The Indian space program plans to send a remote sensing spacecraft in 2007, called Chandrayaan I, which has a five meter resolution. Assuming the craft is successful, its images should provide definitive evidence that the moon landings were real.

No matter what evidence one provides, however, someone will always come up with an excuse to negate it. "The scientists are in on the conspiracy with the laser reflector experiment", or "The images from the satellite are fake", or "They set up the Apollo landing sites afterwards using robots". One has to set their own limits on when evidence becomes definitive, and then stand by that limit.

Neil Armstrong did indeed land on the Moon but for reasons unknown, certain individuals seem to think that it was an elaborate hoax. All the angles shown on the documentaries claiming that it was a hoax have been explained and covered by NASA. For once, why can't mankind end this illogical argument and celebrate our triumphant leap into a new era of space exploration. There are numerous websites showing NASA's explanation to the so called 'problems'. For an astronomy discussion, visit astrowhiz on Yahoo Groups!

Some people say the whole thing was faked...And one question would be, why fake it? Is it that technology cannot do it? That is nuts. The technology of going to the moon and back is relatively simple.

Anyway, I watched it happen. You could see the effect of lighter gravity on his ability to move around easily even in a bulky suit. The pictures showed the environment behaving exactly as it would on the moon. Faking (or trying to fake) the effects would have cost a lot more than it actually cost.

Did planes fly into the World Trade Center on 9/11? I suppose the same bunch would say it was faked. If you told them to go to NYC to see for themselves, they'd probably claim NYC was a faked stage-set to fool them. Oh, boy!

Neil *says* he landed on the moon.

Are ALL the astronauts liars? If you question the moon landing, do you question the earth orbits? Do you question the geosynchronous television satellites? Do you question the closeup pictures of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus? Probably not.

What is so special about the moon landing then? Unless ALL the rest of the space program is faked. AND everyone lied. AND they all kept quiet about it. Thousands of very intelligent engineers and they all 1. got fooled, or 2. lied ????? DOUBT IT!

Oh yeah ... and explain the corner reflector on the moon. It's a mirror for lasers. How did that get there, aliens? Yeah, right.

He genuinely landed on the moon.

Read the book "Bad Astronomy" for detailed explanations that debunk the conspiracy theorists.
