Yes, the Roman Empire grew corn, a lot of it.

The word corn in English simply means seed grain. Wheat is corn, as is barley, millet and oats and even pepper.

American children unfortuantely get the idea that corn means maize. And many of them don't even bother to appeciate the difference as adults. This is just another example of American ignorance.

It amazes me that Americans never stop to think why they call black pepper seeds pepper corns.

So yeah, the Roman Empire certainly did grow corn, and many different types of corn. It did not however grow maize.

Ha! Ha! You've been reading "The Iliad." I wondered the same thing and looked it up last Spring. It turns out the term "corn" was used for several grains like wheat, barley, and such and the "corn" we think of today was indiginous to the Americas and the name has only become associated specifically with that one crop in modern times.

No, corn is from Mexico
It was brought to Europe when the Spanish returned home from the Americas

Not that we know of in Latin . The land was hot and dry and great for grapes and wine seemed to a meal all day long.
I would say grapes and the great water way by the Mediterranean Sea

Corn is indigenous to America.
The American Indians cultivated it.
Europeans carried it back home.
Tomatoes as well.
