When we eat something and feel its taste its done by tastebuds which are receptors on our tongue.
Once we have eaten something the receptors get activated and discharge the signals to brain which reads them. for eg a piece of burfi will be read by brain as sweet taste and of a high "intensity", ,
Now if we eat something after that again like a cup of tea with one tsp sugar or marie buscuit the receptors have already discharged the signals for a high amount of sweet taste, so they become tasteless or less sweet.

BUT if you have a cup of tea with one tsp sugar and subsequently have a piece of burfi then it will be as sweet as it should be,.. why?
Simply because the receptors have discharged signals for a lesser intensity of sweetness and once stimulated with a higher intensity they discharge further signals to brain

Try this: Eat something sweet today, wait for a week without eating anything. Let me know how "sweet" it is, Sunshine.
