Please do not put a smaller front sprocket on your r6, you will regret it. 600's are already geared real short for their low torque and that will sap away your top end and make the bike SCREAM around town. Unless you want nothing more than easier wheelies, which should be easy on an r6 already, I would not do it to a 600. Especially if you have fellow sportbike riders that you group ride with. When its highway time you'll be lost.

If ya really wanna go fast, why not go with a bigger engine/different bike? 600cc's have about so much in em, but if you want reliability longevity AND higher performance, start looking at something in a liter-bike or higher. Look at things like the Suzuki ayabusa or the Kawasaki zx-14. I just read about it and it's claiming like 180 HP. Anything that has to be governed DOWN has ALL the power and acceleration you'd ever want. The 600 has a weight advantage, but if you want balls-out POWER, start shopping for a bigger bike...Yamaha has the R-1, that's supposed to be pretty damn fast...

are you lookimg for more bottom end grunt? cause if you want to be quicker off the line you could also go up a tooth or two on the rear and yes you will lose a little top end speed. you should be able to keep the chain though.

Suck it, and see. If your old chain, is old, though, i'd be getting a new one, just for the hell of it. Spoil yourself......
