Malta is truly worth the visit.
You have archaeology sites type Stonehenge but older, catacombs, Romain villa remains, ...
Medieval city like Mdina, beautiful churches (outside and inside).

But most interesting are the fortification made by the knights of St-John. A evolution of fortifications from 16th century to 18th century. If you have heard about bastions, ravelines, curtains, ... but you can not imagine what it is, here is the ideal opportunity to see it. (if you do not know what these terms stand for just look at these huge fortifications around the Grand Harbour (Valletta), the watching towers, ...
If you like history, Malta is worth every penny.
And you meet friendly people, sun, ...

By the way altought every Maltees speaks perfectly English (better as mines) their first language is Maltees. Some words of Maltees does wonders to be received not as a tourist but as a friend. (fe. Bonjou = hello, gracie = thank you)

If you hire a car for a few days visit the mountains and harbours. You should see most of Malta in a week. The island has more cars per head than any other country. They never wear out!
if you like railways there is the disused stations and converted ticket offices etc.
Try a boat trip as well to break up the holiday.

Malta is gorgeous. I have been for the last two years and will continue to go. I wouldn't say there is any awful lot to do, but if you go in the summer the weather is guaranteed to be hot and sunny, the people are wonderful and it is extremely relaxing.

There are some interesting old towns and lots of churches and catacombs, but in many respects once you've seen one you've seen them all.

Would recommend the Corinthia Palace Hotel - excellent. If you are not interested in pubs and clubs steer clear of St Julians.

Malta is loaded with history.
What history interests you is personal, but there is something for every one.
Your local library or the internet are full of information.
It's a wonderful place to visit, make sure you visit Gozo the tiny Island next door.
Leave the wine alone though, it's awful!

Yes, it's worth a visit but not a long one! It's quite a few years since I've been there but Valetta is very historical with some lovely architecture, and there is a church with the largest dome somewhere... can't remember, I'm afraid. But yes, I enjoyed my stay there.
