listen carefully to what the teacher tells you.
try to understand it, and do not go anyfurther until you understand and make your homework.

Before calculus you need to know algebra, trigonometry and plane geometry.
Calculus is the study of how things change and how things accumulate. So there are two different but related kinds. Differential calculus is about changes, and was initially developed to examine how things change in time, but now can be used to study the relationships of many different quantities. Integral calculus involves things that accumulate over space or time (or anyhing else). For example, if I fill a tank with water flowing at a constant rate, you could easily figure how long it will take to fill the tank. However, if the flow rate is changing, that is not easy and that problem is solved by integral calculus. There are more advanced forms of calculus, such as differential equations, vector calculus, etc. but they are all based on the fundamental principles of differential and integral calculus.

9th grade is Advanced Algebra or geometry depending on where you study, but I'm going into 9th... AP Calculus for me!
Geometry may be confusing, if they do a little trig, otherwise its really just memorizing some basic axioms, and theoreoms... Believe me Geo is the one class you won't be able to getn through easily... I still remember that night.,. I spent half an hour on math homework.., (or maybe Four hrs.).
Proofs are the death of us all..
Really, find the book and buy the Teacher's edition or Student Answers off amazon.

Well basically, calculus is difficult and not fun at all. And you aren't going to be able to DO calculus just from someone briefly explaining it.
There are a lot of different things involved with calculus, just like there are a lot of different things involved with algebra or trig or geometry, but calculus has MORE components I would say. Aaaand you won't be doing calculus for a couple years so I don't think you have to worry about it so much right now...
