I think they do. I could not be rich and not help those in need. What good is money if you don't help people?

it depends on how you look at it. in a way, they do not. there is no real obligation there. it is sort of like asking, does a very powerful country have a greater responsibility to control itself and not abuse its power than a less one.
however with that having been said, the wealthy have become so by building their wealth off the labor of others, who more often than not are poor and are kept poor, after all you make less if you are treating people in a fair way. this is rather sickening.
the idea that in america we can be whatever we want and everyone who isn't rich is lazy and/or stupid is also often most spoken by those who are born into their wealth and have had the opportunities that they have had because of it.
it would be rather nice if the rich felt some kind of obligation to those in need, but sadly they don't.

some rich people started with nothing. they were diligent people, and worked hard to get to where they are now. they had as few resources to get by as do most of us grumbling people-- they made it against all odds.
do they have the responsibility to help the poor? responsibility is a strong word, and NO, they dont. its their choice, their free will, to help others or not.
people from other socio-economic strata could never understand what it means to be rich, unless you experience it, too. then and only then can you answer such questions yourselves.
to be rich has its moments. it also has its curses and difficulties. you dont have the kind of problems they do, and id bet a dollar you wont want to be in their shoes once you get to know what these are.
or why else do some rich people i know cant find TRUE love? most people are after their money. why else do some drink a lot of anti-stress medicine? why else do some crave for real friends, get-dirty-once-in-a-while kind of fun, real family, a quiet life? it has its own problems.
and when you work day and night, worked hard for every penny, how easy is it to part with huge sums day by day, as some charitable institutions ask you to do? that's why some rich people need to study project proposals-- they need to know where their hard earned money would go.
some people simply ask for money without even lifting a finger to work. they simply ask. its OKAY to help the poor if they are also helping themselves-- studying, doing their best, working-- then its okay to help. but to simply dole out, i dont think so.
the point being is that: helping the poor should not be in the context of dole out. helping the poor should be in the context of giving each one equal opportunities to make it in life.

Well, the rich are only rich because they steal from labor. They pretend it's the natural order of things for them to take a cut of your labor, and leave you the smaller portion of what you create 'for them.'
In addition, in America, the wealthy pay a smaller percentage of taxes than the percentage of wealth they own. They use the benefits our tax dollars bring, road networks, educated populace, incredible, subsidized communication networks, and a miltary to make the world safe for their markets as a way to increase their private wealth.
So, money is still flowing to them from the rest of us. It's feudalistic bullshi*.

If they have any morals then yes. They don't need to give all their money away, but no one needs to hoard millions of dollars. If they are good people they will help people that work hard and are simply just less fortunate financially.

no they don't, but I think if anyone has the money to help out the poor without going to the poorhouse themselves that they should help out some.
