In the past 3 years, I've sprained my right ankle 3 times, and they were pretty bad sprains. I never did physical therapy for any of the injuries. The first time I sprained it was from jumping down a flight of stairs (something I'm not doing again!), the second was from skateboarding, and the third was from volleyball and all I did was turn around to get a ball! I'm starting volleyball again and I need some help on how to prevent another ankle sprain. Strengthening exercises or recomended braces would be helpful. Thanks!

I would suggest going to your coach or if you have an athletic trainer in your school and asking for some sort of brace for your ankle, or even your doctor should have some sort of ankle brace that he could give you. Have your coach or athletic trainer tape up your ankle before every practice and every game if you don't have an ankle brace.

The best is to get your ankle taped by a sports trainer or where a brace that will prevent the motion on which the sprain occured. Also after you play vball us the PRICE method which is Protection Rest Ice Compression and Elevation. This will prevent swelling that happens after playing sports on an ankle. The key is to restrict the motion that caused the injury!

snug fitting boots ,
they have a small brace that actually can fit inside your shoe with a air cushion and Velcro straps that seem to help.
