Except in a vacumn, the glass is always full of something. In presenting the half-full, half empty question one is just looking for a means of expressing their philosophic outlook. Right?

cuz there is always something in the glass,

air, dust, bacteria, etc

If you start with an empty glass and pour something into it. It is then half full.

IF your glass is full and you drink some of it. Is is then half empty.

It is a question meant to determine whether you are a pessimist (sad/depressive person)or an optimist (happy person): a pessimist would say half empty while an optimist would say half full (or so they say).

The glass is half filled if you only filled it half way. Or it is half empty if you filled it up and only drank or poured out half of it............
