I have a 2004 Hyundai Elantra and a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. I heard you can go about 2 - 3 thousand more miles between oil changes if you use a synthetic blend. Is this true?

Two times a year, make sure you always check the level ones every 15 days, remember your car is a 2004 and a 2003.to be on the safe side.

no it is not true. You need to chagne the oil at whatever the manufacturer recommends no matter what type of oil you use. Whether synthetic or conventional the oil still has additive packages that wear out.

Depends on the type of car and engine and how hard you drive the car. If you drive your car conservatively, I would check it after about 4-5k. I would think about changing it soon after.

For sure, nothing over 7k.

I would check the oil after 3000 to 3500 miles just to check the thickness and color.
