A desktop is defiantly a better choice. However, if you are not going to be using it for too much file saving and editing, yet you plan on using it more than once daily or if you work in an office and tend to bring your work home a laptop is better. I have both a laptop and desktop and have found the following things:

Music, photos, and other files do better when on a desktop computer.
Games, DVDs, and other media are better on a desktop as well.

Email, Instant messaging, and other Internet applications are better on a laptop.
PowerPoint's, Data, and other displayed items are very convenient on a laptop.

Overall I suggest investing in a high performance laptop with security and convenience features as well as having a secure and stable desktop with a large memory.
Use the laptop only for presenting information, and creating files however save everything to the desktop.
I also suggest rarely connecting to the Internet on the desktop so you can keep your data safe and running all Internet applications on your laptop.

Desktop is better for value for money...but laptop is better for usage - I mean a laptop can be carried with you on trips and you can connect to the internet from just about anywhere if you have a wireless connection....so the choice would depend on how mobile I'd be.

Desktop for power and customization

Laptop for portability and mobility.

I recently had this problem, but in the end I ended up getting a laptop because I need it with me for school. I still have a desktop at home, but I only use it to store stuff on it.

Hope this helps.

I've had a Sony Vaio Laptop for more than a year now and I can tell you I don't think I'll ever buy a desktop again, laptops rule, you get portability, they hardly take any space at all plus wireless internet wherever there's a hot spot . provided it comes with an integrated pci card like mine did. You can buy a router for your regular home internet connection too .

It Depends on what you want , If you want portability and ability to carry your work everywhere , then Laptop is Good.
If you like to sit in one place and work the Desktop is better.
More Value for Money Is Desktop for sure.

depends on how much you are willing to spend and what for. desktops are a lot cheaper and laptops are obviously a lot more portable. desktops are also alot easier to upgrade and make more powerful/faster. just go to computer website like dell.com hp.com ibm.com and build your own of both and see what comes out better for you

I'd really only recommend Laptops for people running businesses and are constantly on the move or for graphic designers who constantly need to meet with clients.

Desktop for sure. You can easily upgrade and fix it, for a heck of a lot less money and headaches! :) Also consider the newer monitors, those flat screen types, they free up space on the desk! :)
