I Live in the country and have 6 chooks and all would rather eat shreaded paper than grain or seed, why is this? Is it okay for them to eat? They've been induging on it for at least 6 months and are all healthy.

Its because they are on it as a flooring material. In the wild or in the UK they are housed on grit on bare earth. This they then eat to give them the minerals in their diet. They need calcium mainly and they are trying to find this in the flooring. Suplement their diet of grain with crushed oyster shell which you should be able to get from any good feed merchant. If you can't get oyster shell then use egg shells after you have eaten them.

No it wouldn't hurt the chickens. But stop feeding it to them and continue feeding grain. They need at least 16-18% protein in their diet. Chickens are fun...;-)
