I just asked ten trick questions using lyrics from the following artists:

Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
REM
U2
Aerosmith
The Grateful Dead
Fleetwood Mac
David Bowie
Steve Miller Band
Meatloaf

And I am a little surprised at the amount of people who have no idea of these fabulous musicians. Granted, maybe I should have asked these questions in the music category, and yes, all these artists have been around for a long time, and who knows the ages of some people on here, but I am 26 and I grew up on all this stuff. I do listen to new music occasionally, but of course I don't have as much time for it as I did as a teenager.

Anyway, does anybody listen to this stuff anymore and do you think more young people should learn to appreciate more of it?

Thank you!

I saw Green Day ten years ago in concert, they put on an awesome show and I love American Idiot, it's one of the few new CD's I've bought.

Yes the Smiths are awesome!

I like all kinds of music, the ones listed above were just from the questions I asked. I also asked a question with an Ani DiFranco line. Here are some more examples from my music library: Dead Can Dance, Janis Joplin, Sublime, Dead Kennedys, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Alice in Chains, America, Elton John, Bad Religion, The Beatles of course, The Sex Pistols, Bob Marley, My Dying Bride, James Taylor, Chicago, The Eagles, Garth Brooks, Harry Connick Jr, Jewel, Jimmy Buffett, K's Choice, Prozzak, Live, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, No Doubt, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Presidents of the USA, Reba McEntire, Shakira, The Cranberries, Simon and Garfunkle, Tim McGraw, Veruca Salt, Jimi Hendrix.

My point is that there is so much great music out there if you just listen for it!

Thanks y'all!

Of course, gotta love the good old sounds and yes I make my son listen to the good old 80's music when ever I can, the younger crowds need to hear and know good music. I can appreciate they have their own tastes, but its up to us to educate them and widen their listening habbits for sure. Coz man some of the rubbish thats around these days! Well enough said, don't want to offend the younger ears, just educate. Where has the real music gone? No where, its still there! Everyone should have a musical education, become eclectic, don't get stuck in the now, remember there was a before and after all where did the music come from! :)

I listen to this stuff....I grew up on it too. In fact I knew all of the lyrics to Meat Loaf's Bat out of Hell by the age of 5 and have been a Bowie fan my entire life. U2's the Joshua Tree will always make me think of a special friend, now lost. Alas, between wandering awayfrom the computer (to tend to life and all that), and spending time answering other questions, it's easy to miss good ones.

I think more young kids than you realize are familiar with the music these people created because it is sampled absolutely everywhere. Of course, the kids don't know who the original artist was and they may have never heard that line of the song....but the truly legendary artists are still getting through to them in the music itself and at least that's something.

My favorites?
Velvet Underground
Camper Van Beethoven
Peter Gabriel
Talking Heads
XTC
Tori Amos
Duran Duran (big fan back in the day)

I'm 21, I listen to fleetwood mac and aerosmith. Doesn't mean that everything else isn't good music. I'll listen to anything except the really heavy stuff and country.

Gosh, Aerosmith is not country? Lot's of people listen to good music but a lot of kids have closed minds.

My grandkids are now accepting of the fact they have to listen to classic rock while in my car.

The 6 year old used to say.. oh no.. save my soul, we have to listen to rock and roll.... but she is starting to like it..
