I am very pleased that you have questioned this very important issue to the world. In many cultures they believe that the female or the girl is weak and has no right over property and also should not enjoy life by doing the same what boys or men do. This is very very EVIL. Unfortunately, some people of the world have made it a complete mind-set that men are more important then women in case of earning a living and no matter what it may be, the eyes are on the men only. Some women have completely become parasites due to this evil culture which has been punched like a program into their brains.
You are absolutely right. Every one in this world must work as work is compulsory for living and earning as well. There should be no discrimination in respect of Sex, Caste, Culture, Religion, Creed etc and etc...

There's a very long history of considering wives and daughters as property and a marriage contract as a business deal (think bride price and dowries). At different times and in some cultures, women have been prevented from owning property. More recently, it's been voting rights.

So if you look at human history, you'll find plenty of examples of customs and even laws which keep women economically dependent on men. I think this attitude is a carry over of those practices (often inherited unconsciously from parents and society). Have you ever stayed in a lousy job because you needed the money? It's the same idea.

It comes off sounding sexist at first, but its actually not. As a man you feel the responsibility to provide for your family. If your wife is making more than you, then you're not fulfilling your role. Many men have overcome these fillings in recent years, and that's a good thing. However, it is important to remember that a man who wants to earn more than his wife is often a good man just trying to fulfill his duties.

It's men trying to hold on to the archaic and hopefully dying social order of women in the home or doing no more than trivial jobs while their dear hubbies brought in the big paycheck.

Not all guys are like that, though. I personally was raised in a house where my mother was the bigger breadwinner when I was little.

If we make an equal amount of money and my wife is pregnant and needs to take time off of work for maternity leave, it would be like losing half of our income. If I made more money than she did, we would lose a smaller percentage.

That's one of the reasons that men are paid more, because of the ability to have a family and not miss work. The others are of course gender bias.

A lot of men FEEL they should make more or have to make more because many men in the United States are raised to the concept that if they are not providing, they are worthless.

Haha probably because they want to be the Man. They want to be in charge and because back in old times the men did the work and the women did the household work, they think they are tougher.
Actually it isn't very important. Then men just act like its a big deal. :P

Even though I am a guy, I don't have a problem with a girl making more money than a guy if she is better and deserves it. I feel each person should be paid accordingly regardless of race, religion, sex or whatever.

Because the man is the head of the family and to be so, he has to earn enough to provide for his wife and kids.
