1) Improper shutdown could also result such restart.(try doing check disk)
2) In an WinXP system you might have set it to restart automatically if any software or hardware (memory dump) failure occurs (blue screen error)
3) Overheated or had some other hardware failure.
4) Power supply has gone bad.

PCs rarely restart, unless they are built wrong, or have bad hardware!

Windoze restarts for 1000's of reasons.

You probably have a virus or a very stupid program. Viruses cause re-boots to further infect your machine.

there could be many reasons for that,pls inform which Operating system are you working on?

-->Overheating, if it reamains on for very very long times.
-->it could be the system settings that if any windows error will come it will restart, for removing it --
Right click on My Computer, select properties, go to the tab Advanced, then under Start up and recovery go to settings.
Here under System failure unchecked the check box which says automatically restart.

Sometimes PCs will reboot because of a memory error. Or you may have a virus or trojan horse.

maybe you hit a wrong button and it automatically restarted...who knows...i did that once..

there was a worm virus going around a couple of years ago that did that.. virus scan your comp and update your windows.. that could be it..?

I agree, it probably overheated. or your power supply wasn't big enough. It's probably the former.
