Just in case, I'd suggest getting a pro to do it. Getting stung by hundreds of wasps or bees can hurt like a sunuvabeech not to mention the medical and possible funeral expenses.

MIGHT BE A HORNET COLONY if you do not know what you are looking at. It is the time of year for horets colonies to be large. Do not knock it down or go near it if that is what it is. What does the nest look like? If it is a big round nest with one opening then it is a hornets nest and they will sting you even if you are not real close to the nest.
If it is a open nest then it is a wasps nest and any store bought pest killer will work. Trick is to get the nest at night when all the wasps are asleep and can't see. You can even use a spray bottle filled wit water and about a quarter cup of dish soap. When the wasps are sprayed the soap suffocates them - works for many insects besides wasps.

Both can be dangerous if you are allergic to the venom from the stinger.
A bee comes in two sizes the honey bee which is a small bee that's yellow and black and the bumble bee which is bigger and thus more noticeable same color scheme.A bee will leave its stinger in your skin and die a few hours latter.
Wasps are hour glass shaped and don't leave their stinger in your skin like the bees do . there are more varieties of wasps than bees. use your search engine to get a print out of the different varieties.

if it's in the eave it's possibly a paper wasp nest. they are sluggish in the daytime.
they sell wasp kill stuff that shoots 15 feet or more. Just soak the nest, maybe a few times.
don't use fire.
