As in why sweet 16 and not any other age?

Also, I'm pretty sure guys don't celebrate any particular age (other than 18 and 21), but if there are, what are the ages?

Once upon a time you could learn to drive or get a license at that age to drive a car. You could also consent to a lot of things, like getting married.

Some Jews still pratise this age as confirmation or reaffirment of the Bar Mitzvah.

Girls and Boys in Judism celebrate adult hood at 12 for Girls and 13 for Boys.

Today, of course it's somewhat archaic, but a nonetheless a tradition.

BUT, I strongly suspect that 16 is the LAST year a girl wants to have a Birthday and from there on out they are 17 for several years, then 18, then 20 and finally like Jack Benny they pick an age like 26 to stay at until they die.

Sweet 16 is a form of an announcement that the young lady is now a woman and deserves more independence and freedom, but not yet ready to do as she pleases, which happens at 18. I've pasted a site here for you to read about it being considered a formality and you will be very knowledgeable about sweet 16 after you read it. It was years ago that I was "sweet 16," and I learned that now it's a bigger deal than it was then. It's kind of like a wedding now, without a groom! Enjoy!

In the early stages of world war two, parents wanted their girls to be older before they married GI's off to battle, so the age of sixteen was appropiate and was celebrated. Later the age of sixteen was considered the maturing of young women who would have the knowledge to take care of a family.

In Michigan the age of consent is 16 so I can see why many horn dogs here would celebrate a sweet 16.

In Mexico when girls reach sixteen it is celebrated as them becoming women, I forgot what this celebration is called but I guess that's where we get it from.
Thinking about it, I don't think I knew anyone who celebrated their sweet 16.

At 16, in most countries, this is marrying age.

Both boys and girls have: Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah if they are Jewish.

I think it's just about drivinggg, well for me. haha but really, it's just about growing up. When you're 13 you're considered a pre-teen. When you're 16, you're a teen. When you're 18, you're an old fart. A lot happens during your junior (age 16) and senior (18) year.

In debutante societies, it is the age when a girl has her "coming out" party. Also, for many years it was the acceptable age for a girl to begin dating.
