It is a good analogy, but here is the difference. The people who disagree with this war in Iraq DO NOT INCLUDE soldiers with the bumblings of a money-hungry president. The people who disagree with the war SUPPORT the troops. It is the Conservative bias who tries to incorporate disagreeing with the war with disagreeing with the troops. It was a different story with Vietnam.

No, it is not going to be like Vietnam. However, there is a very real possibility that there will be a civil war there in Iraq. There is actually already a civil war, and only journalists, pundits and other writers will recognize it in the years to come. It's similarity to Vietnam will then be in the obviousness that Americans died without any identifiable victory. The civil war will last who knows how long, and the Iraqis will tire of the internecine bloodshed. The good result for the Untied States is that the world will see Moslems killing Moslems on al Jazera TV daily for years, and it will be hard to make the case that Americans are the reason Moslems are killing Moslems (after years of TV coverage in Pakistan, Iran, etc.) in a Moslem country where Americans and their business and diplomatic institutions are not present.

I don't believe the whole truth is being told in the paper or evening news. The press hates Bush with a passion. We can win if we stay and finish the job. The benefit of having a democracy in the heart of a Arab country would be amazingly beneficial. Everything that I read indicates we are through the really tough part of this war in Iraq. Finely, we get wiser and tougher every day we stay and Bush said in the beginning right after 9/11 that this was going to take years and it we would do what ever takes to make the US free from terrorist. Everyone seams to conveniently have forgotten that part.

It will never be like VietNam, many more soldiers died there but if we fail and Iran gets the influence they want in there this may lead to WWIII and that is going to make it the worst deal we ever got into.
It truly depends on the people of Iraq, this is the one and only chance they have to stand up for a country with freedom in it but they have never had freedom so I do not know if they are strong enough to do it.
We would have been better off invading Iran directly. The people there are much more educated and would take over the government if given the chance.

sure Iraq warfare is worse than Vietnam warfare in one experience the u . s . can no longer depart Iraq like it did in Vietnam. Iraq warfare is an Israeli foyer warfare and the subsequent warfare would be Iran warfare etc.
