Very often the constipation is caused by the iron in your prenatal vitamins, try another type of iron, if you need it. Lots of water, walking and fibre is always good. Remember to talk to your dr or midwife about it, there are alternatives and also things you can safely take to relieve the constipation if the water, walking and fibre doesn't help.

Good Luck.

I had this same thing happen to me when I was pregnant and my doctor told me to use and enema but it really depends on how backed up you are.

Your doctor may reccomend trying metamucil pills or these other pills I forget what they are called but you take two a day and thier little, round and blue and after you are constipated you should continue with the pills to make sure you have no further constipation problems.

The best thing to do is ask your doctor to make sure it is safe to use an enema at the point of pregnancy you are in. In some cases it can be dangerous

You can try natural remedies such as drinking lots of water, eating bran and fruit (Watch the prunes, they can give you gas) or you can get an over the counter stool softener called colace. Buy a generic brand at places like Wal-Mart for a couple of dollars.

Don't try an enima unless you talk to your doctor first and DO NOT take a laxitive. They are not good for you when you are pregnant.

Try Kolace, it's a stool softener recommended by OB/GYNs for constipation in pregnant women.

Try a fiber source, like bran flakes, bran muffins etc.

Drink plenty of water, lots of water!

Prunes or Prune juices are quick acting and natural, and safe.

I never got constipated...but I did have a lot of diarrhea. The best I took for that was Keopate...that was such a big reliever to stop the diarrhea...but constipation...hmm I wouldn't know but it would be wise if you contact your doctor...or his/her nurse to talk to. Good luck!!!

on an empty stomach(or as close as you can get to one) drink 1-3 glasses of apple juice at your normal rate, or apple cider, you should be cleared up within 1 hour after your last drink. for over 10 years now, that has worked for me(you may even want to do this once a month just to make sure the path is clear)

The baby is probably pushing on the rectal gland so try switching positions and drink plenty of water. Dont take stool softeners becuase they are not good for pregnant women.

drink a lot of water. high fiber cereal like Kashi or Total almost always did it for me when i was pregnant. ask your doctor if you can use 'milk of magnesia' ? it's a pretty mild laxative, i mean if you only take two teaspoons it works as an antacid so it can't be that bad, right? good luck!

Drink lots of water or prune juice. You may need to switch prenatal vitamins to one with less iron too, or take smaller doses of iron throughout the day instead of all at once.
