There have been times when hard work does not pay off in the way that it should. It means that you are working incorrectly or inefficiently. The world is not fair (for example, before the Civil Rights movement, many oppressed people worked very hard and got very little payback) and in those cases, you need to work harder and fight to get what you deserve.

when your working hard all day long work but then at the end of the day your boss reminds you that he fired you last week..
or when you work for hours on a paper for school to get an A but then remember your teacher is an old senile man who doesn't even read the paper and gives you an A anyway

when your doing it as community service for people who yell and spit in your face and your moms making you do it and dosent even acknowledge that you are actually doing it and still nags you! thats one scenario... i got more if your intrested?
