First you have 256 MB of RAM and not 265. You should get at least 512MB, and if you can maximize the RAM (you laptop can probably handle 2 GB of RAM). RAM is fairly cheap to buy, and easy to upgrade.
As for the slowness, make sure that your anti-virus program is using the latest virus definition. Also, how much free space do you have on your hard drive? If you have less than 30% free space, you will encounter slowness, and other problems. Also, when was the last time you ran Disk Defragmenter? If you use the computer every day, you should ran this program every 2 weeks or so. You can run by going to Start|All Program|Accessories|System Tools|Disk Defragmenter. Depending on the size of your computer, and how fragmented your computer is, it may take as little as 20 minutes or as much as over an hour to defragment your computer.
Good luck!

Uninstall NORTON antivirus for a while and restart. I am sure your laptop will start much faster. I recommend you to get another antivirus which is less demanding on your system, like McAffee, AntivirGuard

if you've been loading torrents, then you could have a virus, trojan, or something nasty.
it's unfortunate that people get free programs, and then ask for help when their system gets into trouble like yours when downloading viruses and other infections.
