the misconception here is superior, that is not the point or the mission, they simply take grate amounts of pride in what ever they do,my Mexican wife suffers from this dilemma, and i wish we all had the same trouble, such massive inner drive to achieve and never give up no matter what, to always push for personnel improvement,my wife is very light skinned and her brother and sister are dark and another sister is light as well, allot of inner family jealousy over lighter skin brother sisters, seams almost like light skin gives higher class or something, in my wife's family this has been a ongoing thing between two sisters for really no other reason, other than one thinks the other gets to much attention because of silly skin color, they are both very pretty to look at but if they could just grow up, it would help their personalitys, any way back to your Question, as far as what ive seen being married to a mexican has shown me that it's all about the personel pride and family improvment, and the church, you can't mess with any of that, or trouble will fallow. let them be who they are, they say they work to live and we live to work, remember family values??? it's still alive down in mexico -thank god.

Mexicans have a right to celebrate whatever festivities they want to. Cinco de mayo is a mexican holiday so why would Argentinians want to celebrate a mexican holiday that has nothing to do with their country?
Just like you said where you live the majority are mexicans. Thats why their fesivities are being celebrated. Because in that particular area its mostly mexicans. Where there is an area that is the majority Argentinians then they will celebrate their feasts and holidays. It has nothing to do with feeling superior to other hispanics.
If other hispanics want to clebrate their special festivities they can get together and do so. Its not up to Mexicans to throw a party for Columbian or Puerto Rican festivals. Its up to the Columbians or Puerto Ricans.
Thats like being in an area highly populated by Asians and saying that they feel superior because they celebrate their cultural festivities and don't celebrate cinco de Mayo. What you said doesn't make any sense.

What is the Argentinian feast day? There is no such thing. Sorry. Mexicans are like anyone else. You cannot generalize. There are good people and idiots in every country. SOME Mexicans have this thing about being light skinned, even if a child is butt ugly and they are blonde with blue eyes, they will always be considered better looking that a dark child. I don't get it but that's how some think. To answer your question. No, mexicans do not think they are superior, on the other hand Argentinians do.

Could possibly be that Mexico was far better conquered and integrated into the Spanish way of life then the rest of South America.
Parts of Columbia, for example, are very French dominated and the locals speak French and Spanish.
Parts of Brazil are very Japanese oriented.
There are about four major Latin American areas, Mexico is one of them, they take the Catholic festivals very seriously from October 31 clear into the end the March. They almost have a festival a week for some event!
We also have to look at another fact. Most Mexican, the major immigrants into the US, what to sing the National Anthem of the US in Spanish.
So that may speak of some logical flow in thinking Mexican.
Prejudice is also found in all people and races. Blacks do, Whites do it, Mexicans do it.
You didn't mention the FACT that there is a rivalary between "city" Mexicans and "rural" Mexicans.
They have their own term for "hillbilly" and "city slicker."
There is also a rivalry based upon HOW MUCH INDIAN and How much Spanish blood or traits you have.
The Indians are often considered second class citizen. Indians have the more oval eyes and lighter skin.
The Darker Mexicans are the Spanish/Moor ones who came and conquered.

First if your a real Mexican from Mexico not born it the US you don't celebrate 5 de Mayo. The Virgen de Guadalupe thing is a Catholic holiday. As for everything else well people just do things when it's convenient for them. I doesn't matter what race you are.

maybe, the reason that Mexicans make big a deal out of Mexican holidays is because their are proud of their race, also Mexico is closer then any other Latin country, I'm Chicana and my family (like my grandparents, parents and uncles)are Mexicans, I'm light but i have cousins and other family members that are dark and we still love each other the same. i have never heard of anyone putting each other down because of their skin color, I think you're are out of your mind.Texas used to be Mexico and a lot of Mexicans stayed after it became Texas and their traditions never died. that could be why we still celebrate our holidays too. Oh yea, you may not have a since of humor, I'm sure that the Mexicans that think you are weird for not eating hot sauce are just paying with you, we love to joke and have fun, some times people get offended and we don't know it, so i think the best thing for you to do is to let them know that you are getting offended and they will stop joking around with you, because most Mexicans are all about respect, when i say Mexicans i don't mean Chicanos,Some Chicanos may not know how to respect. well i hope that you understand why Mexicans are the way we are, but that does not mean that we think we are superior, we are just proud to be Mexicans

It sounds like your church thinks the Mexican holidays are more important than the other Latino holidays. People of other groups should speak out if they're offended by their holidays not being celebrated. Me, I live in Austin, TX, and our whole town celebrates Cinco de Mayo, too. It doesn't mean the Mexican population thinks they're better than anyone else. Heck, everyone is welcome to join the party!! Nobody thinks I'm weird because I don't eat hot sauce, or that I prefer Puerto Rican food to Mexican food. I know lots of Latinos, but haven't heard any of them complaining that someone is too light or too dark. It sounds as if you don't like Mexicans, to tell you the truth. And their "nonsense," as you call it. Why are you so angry?

I'm Mexican and I don't feel superior. There is no such thing as a superior race. To begin with, I don't celebrate any of those holidays that you mentioned and I do not celebrate December 12. You must be living around narrow minded people. Trust me, not all of us are that way.

I am from Asia so maybe I can say something about Mexican objectively and my answer is definitely NO, they don't. What ever it is that you experience from Mexicans in you area, maybe it just happened that there are more Mexicans than the rest of people you mentioned.
Actually I find other Latinos get offended if ever I made a mistake of asking if they are Mexican. So, who thinks they feel superior?

if you have a problem with Mexicans and so many live in you community then move from that community. They are not telling you not to celebrate what you want too. to me it seems their is a large group of Mexicans that celebrate the cultural beliefs and in your community their is just a large number of Mexicans participating. You should find a large number of people who want to celebrate your cultural belief and I'm more than sure that the Mexicans would mind it.
