No, it refers to a persons external behavior. Some feminists tried to promote the idea that people should behave in an androgynous way so that there would be no difference in the way
men and women dressed, each gender would be as sensitive or aggressive as the other, men could carry purses without a stigma, and things like that. Thankfully, the idea never was accepted except by a few people.

I always thought that being androgynous was a way of dress. Not sexual preference.
Men wearing two earrings and looking feminine. When you look at this person you are tring to figure out if they are male or female. Their appearance is almost strange.

I thought it had to do with their actual sex. Like they feel androgynous. Their style of dress and their way of thinking express that. I guess they'd then be attracted to who ever. Based on feelings towards the particular person, instead of gender. That's what I've always percived anyway....
