I have to confess ever since I saw Pirates 2 I've been trying to remember. I read it once but I forgot the term. Please don't say voodoo mama because that's not the one I'm thinking of. The word was French I think. Does anyone know?

The answer is not Marie Laveau (I know that much) she was just the most famous one in this country.

This is pertaining to Haitian Vodou practice. I am not sure as to what they are called in others forms of Vodou.
The highest level is high priestess called Mambo Asogwe and the priest is called Houngan Asogwe.
The level below that is priestess in training Mambo Sur Pwen and the priest in training Houngan Sur Pwen.
The level below that is hounsi, which is just an initiated person.
Below that is hounsi bossale, which is a non initiated member of a house.
Below that is vodousaint. This is someone that attends fets (service) but they are not initiated and not a member of a house.
