In general, gas is cheaper to run than electric, but there are other factors to consider. Perhaps it's not feasible to run gas lines to this property for some reason. If your location will be very rural, you need to focus on self-sufficiency, such as solar, wood, or other sources which you can control. Gas lines can break, and electric lines can come down. The electric company that services your prospective house can give you information on power outages in the area and also detailed information on energy usage for that house.

Well you asked a vary vague question.

# 1 are you buying your home in a subdivision or out in the country. This itself is going to determine your choice.

# 2 Its most certain you will have electrical but you may or may not have gas hook ups.

# 3 Gas is still cheaper than electric but with the rising costs oil who knows if it will equal out with electricity costs.

# 4 the other thing you may want to think about is using a wood stove to heat your home. It would be a very wise investment. With the wood resources available up there it would be a very good What to heat your home.

Gas is good for:
cook tops but not ovens
water heaters but i a suggest tank less water heater
heat for your home but have it maintained and serviced buy a professional

Gas is way cheaper. And if you use a gas stove, it cooks better than an electric one. And the big plus, if you lose your lighter, you can just turn on a burner for a sec and PRESTO, instant light, no waiting around for electric burners, or the new glasstop ranges that you cant even get a light off of.
