I think I might get a tatto of the lyrics "Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be..." from the song Breathe by Pink Floyd. My question is where should I get this tattoo, and how should it look? I don't just want plain lins of text, I'd like some sort of design. What do you think?

I wasn't asking for openions on weather or not I should get a tattoo. If you don't think I should get one, don't bother answering.

the text will have to be big enough so that they don't totally blur over time. trouble is, that's a LOT of text there. Unless you plan on making this a 1/2 back piece that is big and expensive, I might rethink it. the best advice i've gotten is: draw up what you want, or have someone draw it for you. then hang the drawing on your wall for at least six months. if you still LOVE it after looking at it every day for months, then get it.

remember, there's many more lousy tattoos out there than there are good ones.

Are you wanting all those lines of text? If so, be prepared for a pretty big tattoo! But if not, you could pick a few words/phrases from the lines above. Possibly choose a character or two (i.e. Japanese text) that describe the feeling you want to portray.

If you're going the big tattoo route, here's two ideas I have:
1. The words go around and around in a circle, spiraling in or out. You'd need a large area for this one, most likely your back.
2. The words can meander across your whole body like a vine. For example, starting on your wrist, traveling up your arm, maybe around your shoulder, down your back and across to the other side, across your hip, then winding down the other leg.

Tattoo's on the small of your back are popular with females.
Perhaps a scroll, with the words inside, or maybe a dove, wings outstretched with the words written along the wings, or down it's back?
The idea of them spiralling around an ankle or possibly even your shoulder(adapting what someone else said)is good, too!

As for the words needing to be big, not at all. The ink they use nowadays has come a long way, since the days of our grandads tattoos...it's designed to not fade much at all. Not only that, but tattoos don't "blur" anymore with age. They may fade slightly, but there's no chance of blurring with todays inks, although 'jeboshea's' suggestion of just the one line could be worth considering.

Nice choice, btw. Pink floyd's 'Breathe'. So you aren't afraid to care? Splendid! It's a typical trait of a superhero!

:)

As the guy said above, it's tough with lyrics because they can't tattoo things very small. they won't tattoo small words because it tends to blur together. You'd probably be better off with cutting it to a shorter line such as long you live and high you fly or something. i had actually considered getting that tattooed on me before but it was too hard. i didn't want to commit that much space on my body to a tattoo. its gonna be MEGA expensive and be a huge piece. but i love the sheet music suggestion above. good luck!

and seriously folks, lay off. shes not asking your opinion on whether or not she should get a tattoo. go somewhere else and give your lectures

If you could please post a full pic of yourself (nude preferably), I could help you determine the best spot for your tattoo.

Just kidding... well maybe.

However, in all seriousness, I would say with that much text you will likely be best to place it on your upper or lower back. As far as a design, I'm clueless on that part, to me that much text makes a design other than a fancy font of some kind rather difficult for me to come up with.

Why not instead of lyrics get the sheet music tattooed around your arm or leg ... going up/down in a spiral would look neat or a few bars in one circle around your upper arm.

Maybe you should try out different ideas in henna tatoos first? I don't know because I don't have tatoos, but I don't see why it's any of my business if you get a tatoo anyhow. Maybe the text should wrap around your belly button in a circle like a record?

beautiful lyrics, but that would be a bit long for a tattoo. Do you want it to be seen or where it could be covered? Upper arm?

Have you considered getting the album art done in lieu of the lyrics? It would still be meaningful to you and it would be easier to place, as well as more esthetically pleasing...
