I have light skin and I want to use a color that doesn't make me look "pale." Has anyone tried any of these...
Fair
Fairly Light
or Light ?
Which one is better? Is it better to go a little darker than go a little lighter? Also, which brushes work best with foundation?

Is light or fairly light VERY VERY light? I'm worried because I plan on ordering online with no refunds.

If you can order it from Sephora, or from the Bare Escentuals website if it's not what you want you can send it back and get a refund. I wouldn't order it unless you can get a refund.
I wear Fair. It's perfect for me. With Fairly light and Light there's a golden undertone. In my opinion it's better to go a little lighter than a little darker. With the starter kit you can add warmth to the foundation to darken it a little.
You won't need that much when you put it on.
If you get the starter kit, that has everything you need, 2 foundation shades, warmth, mineral veil, 3 brushes and the instructional DVD.
If you're still not sure and if you're near either a Bare Escentuals boutique, or a Sephora store stop in and they can help you find the right shade. Both have a good return policy.
Once you get it it'll take some practice putting it on.
Good luck!

It's always better to match skin tone as much as possible. I use this brand and no single shade matches me exactly. I actually buy two different shades and mix them to get a better match. Having two shades to mix also helps if you skin tone changes slightly from summer to winter.
For the foundation, I use the Flawless Application Face Brush. To conceal, I use the Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush.
If there is a Bare Escentuals or a Sephora near you, you can test out the shades in person before you buy.
I don't really like the kits because the two shades I buy are in two different kits. My skin has yellow undertones, and the kits have two similar shades but one is for yellow and the other for pink undertones. So I buy a light yellow tone and a darker yellow tone seperately instead of the kits.
If you do end up ordering online because you have no other option, they have a good return policy and will let you trade for a different shade if what you bought didn't work out. But you will have to pay for shipping for exchanges.
(Also, Bare Escentuals and BareMinerals is the same thing. It's made by the same company.)

I have light skin with golden undertones and I used Fairly Light. I actually got it matched at the Bare Escentuals store where I live and it made me look like I had jaundice once I was in natural light. I wouldn't get that color.

i use it and love it. don't order on line. i say go to a store/salon that sells it. like Ulta or Sephora. have someone match your shade. the light and fairly light are just that, really light. you can really custom mix any shade if you get a light and a darker one like the medium. then u can find a combo of both powders that works good. you won't get anything too light or too dark.
be sure to get the mineral veil. it finishes the look. you will get the best coverage out of the baby kabuki brush.
good luck with that.

Just go to a Bare Escentuals store--don't order it from TV. The store is staffed by makeup artists who will help you find your perfect colors. I love love love Bare Escentuals!

A video on CD came with mine. Try to match your skin tone. Sometimes it takes mixing two shades. I can't tell with out seeing you. They tell you which brushes to use for what. There's a foundation brush and the kabuki which I like. BTW I'm a medium.

If you have to go to the trouble of mixing shades to match you, why not just try the Physicians Formula Mineral Wear line? Their product is made to adjust to you, not the other way around. And as far as the cost? Way cheaper. www.physiciansformula.com

I have never used it, but I hear you can buy it from Sephora! So look at it there and maybe that would help you decide. :-)
