hola, i play drums, and i half way sing, weell im learning, because i naturall have a 5 octave vocal range, andthe best singers out there have 5 1/2 octaves, most people with out vocal lessons have 1, "undiscovered" natural talent have 1 1/2, and good choir and other types of singers have two after being fully trained, i have had 5 octaves for a long time, since befire puberty. how good am i, singing im not that good yet, i have just started, but as far as range goes, i have almost the biggest range a person can have with human vocal chords, not sure how i was able to develop them in such a way, other than i like to be able to go low and ultra high, so ive always blasted peoples ears with my high notes, i can hurt peoples ear drums from more than a hundred yards away. i can currently go as high as the 5 th fret on a guitar tuned standardly. i am only a few pitches away from going as high as the human voice can go.
my freind has his masters in music theory (self taught, then you take a huge test to show that you know everything, and you play a contucted piece of your own) and hes teaching me how to sing as to i have so much potential.
as far as the band thing goes, im not in one because this country has enough people starting bands as soon as they get an instrument. and they never bother learning how to actually play it. i could be an "amazing drummer" for a band, as to i am amazingly fast, and i know more of the rudiments than most, but, i know my true skill. anyone can make it as a musician in this country. all it takes is selling out. of coarse if you dont know what you are doing that helps, because then its not a question of morals, you just really do suck, so the record companys wont have a problem signing you as long as you sound almost exactly like everyone else.
there are so few companys that if you dont know the theory behind your instrument, then you wont get signed. and if you sound like anyone selse, you sure as hell wont get signed.it really is depressing.
but if you know the theory, or any theory for that matter, and you can live with yourself selling out, then you wont have a problem making it.
as far as finding band members, try myspace, thats the only way they are any bit useful, there are something in the tune of 400,000 musicians on there or more, and youll be able to get in touch with ones in your area.
