My sons play it and so do all of their friends. They even get together for tournaments. What is it about this particular game - they have played many games, but seem really hooked on this one.

I've encountered many reasons why Halo has been causing a rukus within the gaming community:
simplistic/easy gameplay
can be played at any level (join in for the first time or very professional)
graphics are very stunning
gameplay is geniously and insanely entertaining (head shots/"sticky" gernades/swords)
and the levels/guns/vehicles are well crafted and well thoughtout
yup...practically perfect :)

Because its one of those games where you can go around shooting each other without it looking too "out of this world". The controls are simple and the pace of the game is also good.
A few great things about this game is that there are so many gametypes available and they can be customized to your liking. The game also has a good single player campaign and also supports co-op play. Go go even further, you can play with other people online through XBL.
Overall its a very solid game. Halo was great and as a result it became extremely popular. Halo 2 only added to that and of course Halo 3 which will be released in 2007 for the Xbox 360 will be even more popular.

it is the fact that people can get together and it requires SO much teamwork to accomplish anything and it gives you a good feeling of achievement and plus you get the bragging rights for if you do something really amazing in the game it's basically a very addicting game because of how well it is made and it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it.......it also has a perfect 10 rating in video game mags so it's gotta be a good game

you can do many things in it (drive cars, tanks, flying things). There are many gory weapons and missions, the game is huge, and there are many game types.
Oh yeah, and the story is super interesting
P.S. if he keeps playing halo, he will grow up to be a guy that swears at his computer 'cause lost a game.

Nothing at all whatsoever about it is addictive. It sucks. The Unreal Tournament series is so much better... *blush*
