alot of it is in a minor key which creates a bit of introversion. along the same lines, chinese music was designed to operate vibrationally. that is, the chinese knew about the effect of particular frequencies for creating specific results. thus, certain music was for healing, some for upliftment of spirit, some for creating romantic ambience, etc. so while the "melody" might not be that "agreeable", the vibes did their "work". pretty interesting, eh? :-)

Tradition Western music is usually three chorded. Traditional Japanese music is usually five chorded. I notice, too, what you have noticed about some Japanese music. I do not understand well why five-chorded music effects me in such a "poignant(?)" way. I'm only guessing, but, music hails from Pythagorean math of penta divisions and proportions, or, five. The universe and nature makes "penta" music. Maybe, the poignancy of Japanese music is related to that connection some how.

What kind of Japanese music are you listening? There are many kinds of Japanese music. Try J-Pop and J-Rock which will make you happy instead of depressed.
By the way, I agree with Skyeboi that Koji Tamaki's music is great but makes me really sad....

In a prior life you were living in Japan, a tragedy occurred. Your subconscience is recollecting that event.
