To forgive is noble.
To forget is stupid.

Hang in there.

Personally i think forgiving and forgetting is okay. Depending on the situation, you may or may not forget what happened. For me i usually don't forget... and that's okay. But you can always forgive... and just because you forgive someone doesn't mean you will forget what happened. What happens, happens and no one can change the past, all they can do is live in the now and see what happens in the future... but only you can forgive someone for how they hurt you and make the future better for you and that person... if that makes any sense.

It depends on the entire situation. It is VERY hard to say you will forgive and forget b/c you will more than likely NEVER forget. Saying it is the easy part. It's been 4 years and I have forgiven but still can't forget.

It is rather easy to forgive, but difficult to forget. I suggest you try to put the pain in a separate division. I truly believe that what goes around, will eventually come around - meaning those who have intentionally hurt us, will in like feel the same pain. I direct you to the Serenity Prayer:
Give me the strength to accept the things I cannot change (you cannot change anyone or anything, only yourself); the courage to change things I can (yourself and your attitude) and the wisdsom to know the difference.... in other words, you cannot change another human being, place or thing ... all you can do is accept these things just the way they are, and change yourself accordingly, if you so desire.Remember: it is always easier to be kind, than to be right. Hope this helps. Life is not fair to us; nor are other people. If the problem was not of my creating, I try to understand what life events the other person may be going thru, and allow them the space and time they may need to heal. If it IS my fault, then I send a written apology, confirming my lack of whatever they were in need of ... if they respond, I know they are a friend. If they ignore or reject my apology, then I know the problem lies within that person, and not me.

Why forget? Forgiveness is something that will happen with time and understanding. Forgeting will only lead you into the same problems in the future.
Good luck

I know I can forgive but it would be very hard to forget, depending on what happened. They say that time heals all wounds and maybe over time the pain will lessen and in time maybe I could then forget but not initially.

forgiving and forgetting is very important, if you don't forget it leaves you carrying around a lot of emotional baggage that is not necessary. And forgiving is vital because holding a grudge against someone may make it hard in the future to make new friends.

I have a hard time to BUT once you finally go you will feel much better...forgiving and forgetting doesn't mean that you pretend it never happened, you just are able to move on and not let it bother you and hold it against anyone else

You should try to forgive, but forgetting is not a smart idea. We are supposed to learn from the things that we experience, and if we forget them they will happen repeatedly!!
