i can get a compaq w8000 for free. its pretty nice but to make it even better i'd have to put in like 200 bucks. would it be worth it? i know its a server mobo and stuff but i would think that it would still perform pretty high for other things too

its got a 38gb 10,000rpm hard drive and only supports scsi hard drives (i think?!) and it needs rd ram. both of which are pretty expensive but thats where my 200 bucks comes in. what are advantages of that kind of ram? and do i really need a SCSI hard drive?

Dual Xeons would SPANK XP. I would put in a wicked video card and then you'd have a formidable game box. Yes, well worth $200.

Plus, dude, it will SCREAM!!!! all ya gotta get is a free download of one of the 800 multi tasking and multi processing FREE Linux or BSD OSes! Linux already runs Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, msn.com, all on 45,000 servers.. like yours, and google.com on 100,000 like yours, clustered! FreeBSD runs Yahoo.com, on servers like yours!

With a single little 10 Gb drive, I could rule the world!
Have a rack, and some in it already!
Try the one I listed, it rocks! Mail me for more info, and, what state you in?! I could send you info about free clubs ,to help you set up, and serve webspace on that!

See what kind of RAM that box uses first. They often used Rambus RIMM modules which will cost you a small fortune!

Where else are you going to get a computer of this level for $200? I'd say go for it.
