I am assuming that you have a mortgage and are behind in payments. You have up to 6 months before they can repossess your house, or you can file for bankruptcy and stave off any action by them even longer.

You should try to get an emergency advance payment - were supposed to be part of initial application, but call and maybe they will help you.
2187.2 Under what conditions can a Social Security office make an emergency advance payment?
SSI emergency advance payments are available only at the time of initial application if you need assistance before the first payment arrives. You must present strong evidence of the following:
Qualifying for payment in the current or in the following month by meeting the qualifications for eligibility (age, disability, blindness, citizenship or alien status as applicable); and
A financial emergency exists where you have insufficient income or resources to meet an immedite need for food, clothing, shelter or medical care.

You might want rent out a room (or the whole thing while you live somewhere else cheaper). Don't wait for SSI as they are too slow. If you can't rent, seriously consider selling with the idea that you can buy again when things are settled down.

Waiting for SSI approval could take quite some time. Have you tried to refi your home? And consider talking to your church. I want to suggest selling your home, if that is reasonably viable, and living perhaps more frugally. I am not being sarcastic here, truly....I wish you all the best. Is bankruptcy an option for you?

yoou will lose your house before you get approved possibly as they take forever to process applications unless you have a great attorney and that does not always work too fast either .
