I'd have to say the Beatles. During a six year period from 1964 to 1970 they had 65 Hot 100 hits with a total of 76 hits overall including some in the 1990's long after they broke up. Not only that, there was a time where they occupied the entire Billboard top 5, locking out everyone else, while at the same time they had 11 concurrent hits occupying the charts. A lot of other major artists during this time jokingly claimed that the Beatles had their own charts while everyone else shared the other chart! This was unprecented nor has anyone since come close to doing this. A question like this will invariably bring in suggestions that include the Beatles and now you may know a good reason why.

The Question is: "DO YOU HAVE THE TIME... TO LISTEN TO ME WHINE?..."(Basket Case - Green Day, Dookie [1994])

...Now this is easy! GREEN DAY! You should know that! I have all of their CDs (1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, International Superhits, Shenanigans, and American Idiot [With B-Sides]) and even some rare tracks too. I have both of their DVDs as well (Bullet In A Bible and International Supervideos). Now that you know about the band that has claimed the biggest audience across the world, go in peace and spread the word! Also try to do what I have done...Give in to buying as much Green Day music and merch as possible!...Thank you for understanding my point! Now...remember...go buy, buy, buy! and...

"I HOPE YOU HAD THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE..." (Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) - Green Day, Nimrod [1997])

Judas priest, for 32 years they have been leading the trends in metal and rock in general. without them none of the nu metal bands would exist, and metal would never have evolved the way it did. Bands ranging from Metallica to slayer to slipknot all cite them as a great influence, yet today they are still leading the charge.
