Well I started my period 3 years ago. My mother said that it would take a few months to get regulated, but for the past three years I would get my period every 3 or 4 months sometimes longer. Which don't get me wrong its nice but I'm concerned of all the health risks I have. I'm not on any birth control or any kind of medication to cause this type of behavior. Also I have been on my period for 8 days and it doesn't show any signs of lightening up at all. Besides the normal suggestion of seeing a doctor what health risks am I at for this type of behavior?

Thanks a bunch ♥

It usually takes a few months to get regulated, but some women never have regular periods. If you're particularly thin or athletic, your period can be irregular or stop altogether. 8 days is a long period, but not crazy long. If you start to feel dizzy or have trouble breathing, you're in danger of developing anemia.

Basically, an irregular period is usually no big deal, especially if you have no pain or other symptoms. You may want to have it checked out, though, because all of the diseases that may have irregular periods as part of their list of symptoms lead to infertility or cancer.

I'm not sure why your periods are so irregular.
There could be many reasons. It would be difficult to diagnose without a check up. Seeing a doctor isn't a bad idea, if you haven't already done so.
Women athletes have less body fat & lose their period & many times are irregular.

how old are you? that would be my first question. If you started when you were 11 or 12 that would be different if you started when you were 15.

Are you underweight? That would affect regularity. Are you very involved in sports? That also may affect regularity.

and yeah, you might want to contact an actual gynecologist instead of your family doctor if you don't think he/she is the best person to talk about this.

your usterus is irregular. drink more water and check out your local health food store for things to help with your blood. the people there should be knowledgeable and helpful. birth control can mess you up and nature has it's ways of straightening out. there's probably something from nature that you're just not getting. i hope they can help you out more than i can. i wish i could help you more.
