about your toilet, the holding tank is on the top, that's the part that holds the water,it is held down by 2 or 3 bolts and screws.on the base, the under inside rim where the holes are,is the return filler.when the snake crawled in to the hole it will end up in the same place, the stuff in the bowl goes, down the drain.and for the record snakes dint have families, they are layed in and egg, when they hatch they go there own way, sounds to me you had a black rat snake, and the eat mice, a good thing.how it got in the house,if you house is on a slab, check your doors and make sure they close all the way,no cracks, and if you house is above ground check the outside crawl space, door, where the a/c goes under the house for holes.this could be the only time it happens, good luck

All those other answers are crap.First off,it sounds like it's just a harmless little baby black snake, but if your not sure then be very careful. It could be poisonous, depending on your locality and there could be more baby's and a mom and dad somewhere in her house yet.Check the back of the toilet and if it's not there then keep an eye on the toilet for awhile and it should come back out, because they are not water snakes. If all else fails, you can call your local animal shelter. They usually have or know a reptile specialist who can come and remove them, without harming them. You should never harm a snake unless your life or someone Else's is being threatened by it,because they are a great mouse population reducer.

Snakes occasionally travel through the rodent-rich sewer system and sometimes end up in odd places when they follow some of the tunnels.

The snake wants to find a nice, warm, sunny place with good shelter and food- someplace very different than the bathroom.

It will almost certainly find its way out and to safety without any help and she will probably never see it or another snake in the toilet again.

I would suggest leaving the lid up for a few days, so she can see if it shows up, and avoid any surprises- but it will get out of there as fast as it can- it is just as afraid of her!

OK I had a pet black snake one time and i can try to help.OK
(1)The snake she put in the toilet if it is just a baby there is more than likely a mom and dad snake under her house with a nest of babies.
(2)If she puts the dead Snake out side another snake will come and carrier the dead snake off so if she wants to find the nest do that and follow it and then call your closet animal control and have them removed.(sorry i kind of went against the don't say ... but they will know how to handle them and wont kill them)
(3)If her or her kids are bitten take them to a doctor thaet are non-venomous put can cause a bad infection and she needs to git a antibiotic.

I am going to tell you to call a plumber, but because it would be a smart move since they know the anatomy of where things go, so it would be a good idea! hope it works out for you,
p.s. i love snakes

Since I don't know what area of the country you are in, cannot help you much. Are you sure it wasn't a large worm? The holes the water comes out of in a commode are small..really small. Or could it have been a salamander?

OK. Try putting a boom box in the bathroom. Turn it up loud. the snake will be attracted to the vibration of the music and seek it out.

Well, best thing is to call someone local that knows about snakes. Vets, shelters, wildlife dept. Someone should have some answers for your sister.

Take the lid off her tank (on the back of the toilet) and see if he's there. If not, he's probably inside and there's not a way to get there.
