nice math question! i am a math nerd...lemme tackle it

first i'll tell u how u got it wrong

if u square both sides of the equation, you get 2x-5-x-3=1

and from that...x-8=1
x=9

see? you squared "(radical 2x-5)-(radical x-3)" incorrectly

example of this:

(a-b)^2=(a-b)(a-b)=a^2-2ab+b^2

NOT...a^2-b^2

do you understand? this is the property of distribution

now to solve correctly:

(radical 2x-5)-(radical x-3)=1

(radical 2x^2-x^3-15)=+ - 1+ (+ - 1)

square it now...and get

x+5= + - 2

x=7
x=3

btw, the + - means positive and negative

hope this helps!!!

so are you attempting to ingredient it into 2 binomials? ok then it really is the way you do it. with equations like this (x^2+40 9) you should do something like (x-7)(x+7) and that could want to equivalent x^2+40 9, to get from x^2+40 9 to (x-7)(x+7) you should take the sq. root of 40 9 and then use a plus sign up one equation and a minus sign up the different equation. doing a situation like 2x^2+10x+12 you may want to confirm out the factors of 12 like one million-12 or 2-6 or-3-4 for this equation the reply is two-6 because 2 circumstances 2 equals 4 and four plus 6 equals ten it truly is the middle variety so the binomial for this equation might want to seem as if this (2x+6)(x+2). in case you recognize a thanks to get from binomials to the equation then you ought to understand this in case you do not then there is now to not a lot more beneficial i'd help you with, i particularly wish that it really is smart and best of success on your attempt day after today!

I gotta tell you something Stacy M,
Don't you ever, ever be scared about getting old.

Once you've scraped your way through your education, had kids, run up loads of bills, struggled for years to pay them off again, had unhappy relationships, etc etc etc you finally, if you're lucky, get to retire.

That's when the real fun starts.
Most youngsters think, "God, don't old people make you sick?"
Most old people think, "God, I'm so glad I'm not young anymore."

No more worries, no more trying to solve the meaning of life, the universe and everything and most importantly, no more trying to solve stupid math problems that you never had any use for throughout your entire working life.

Sorry I can't help you, but you'll manage.
Good luck. There is a light at the end of that long tunnel.

(2x-5)^1/2 - (x-3)^1/2 = 1

(2x-5-x+3)^1/2 =1

(x-2)^1/2 =1

Square both sides
x-2 = 1
x=3
