I would get Microsoft Streets and Tips (http://www.microsoft.com/streets/default.mspx). You can take it on the road with you (it has a GPS Locator) which would allow you to not only see the maps, but where you are on them.
Google Earth also works for looking at roads, it shows toll roads. The only downside is it is not always up to date, and not all roads are shown.

You tried Mapquest, right? If these online mapping programs don't allow the differentiating, I'll check my Streets n Trips and see if they allow it. I need to know which freeway and nearest crossroads.

yup www.mapquest.com after you put in all the information you have the option of choosing which type of directions you want

Try Micrsoft's new option, Windows Live. I used to have to rely on MAPQUEST in my profession, and it is ok, but its good to have options.
