I am sure I have a burner in my harddrive, my friend says it should be there automatically in a new computer....But the media player won't let me burn music. How can I fix this?

I looked under the start menu and don't see anything that says I even have a burner, so do I need to buy one? and if so, does anyone know where I can get a cheap one that will work good? I don't need anything fancy, just basic is good for me now. I have no ipod or nano, or mp3, no extras like that, so none of that stuff is necessary.

The big Box is a Computer having the following Parts atleast...
1)Processor 2)Motherboard 3)Hard Drive 4)Optical Drive 5)RAM 6)Floppy(Optional)..
1)Look the Hard Drive is basically a magnetic Storage devive and do you think that it is possible for a Magnetic Device and Burn an Optical device. It is impossible so don't confuse a Hard Drive with CD Burner.
3)A CD Writer/Burner is an Optical Drive which burns a CD via it's high intensity laser but a simple cd ROM drive does not have that High Intensity laser to Digitally encrypt data in an Optical Drive but only Reads it.
2) Check what is your Optical Drive that the Drive which takes the CD. If it's a CD Writer/DVD Combo/DVD Writer then it will be written on it as "Compact Disc Rewritable". If so then you have to check whether you have a CD Burning Software like Nero Express which is the most used and simple CD Burning Software.
3)It will be Hit and Trial but I suggest you Install Nero somehow from any source that you have and then try to burn a Blank disc available in the Market. if you can Burn a Disc successfully using Nero in your Drive then you are sure you have a CD Burner otherwise you have a simple CD ROM Drive. This the best way you can check atleast you are 500% sure that you don't have a Burner.
6) Incase you don't have one then Trying to Burn a Disc using Nero will not Damage your Computer. They will give an error Mesage and the Program will stop. So do so without taking tension in your Life. You can also buy a CD Burner for $20 approx.

OK, let's get a few things straight first off. That big box is a "computer" not a "hard drive". There's a hard drive inside the computer, but you don't put CD burners (or anything else) in a hard drive.

Look at the front of your optical drive. Look for the letters CD-R or DVD R/RW. If you only see CD or DVD without the -R or -RW or if it says CD-Rom or DVD-Rom then you don't have a burner. You'll need to buy one and install it.

It's also possible that you are trying to burn copyrighted material protected by Digital Rights Management and the DRM is set to prohibit burning.

First, the burner is in the computer not the hard-drive.

Second, look at the front-panel of your PC and look for CD-Writer, DVD-Writer, Combo-Drive - any of these things....normally on your CD drive, in some cases on the front-panel if it's customized by the vendor -like HP and Compaq

Assuring that you have a burner, the next step is to have a program that helps you create the audio / video / data CD's/DVD/s you desire. To do so, you need a program that would connect to the burner on the low level and manage it to burn CD's/DVD's.

New pre-installed computers tend to come with Sonic. Some come with Roxio / Adaptec, and others come with Nero. If you don't find any of these names in your Program Files menu, then you probably don't have any installed and would need to install one.

You can use this product temporally and then plan in investing in one of the major brands on the market - for ease of use...

Hope this solves your problem...

Good Luck!
